Queensland Steel & Sheet was established in 1985 with four founding partners, Ken Thomson, two silent partners and myself. I have been in the steel industry for over 46 years and I believe that service to the customer is the key to our business future and that this quality of service is what sets Queensland Steel & Sheet apart from the rest. My hobbies include playing golf, enjoying a good wine and spending time with my family.
I have been with Queensland Steel & Sheet since 2009 and around the steel industry for as long as I can remember, having been born the daughter of a steel merchant. Over that time, I have seen the industry and QSS evolve and I feel privileged to be part of it. After graduating from university with a Business Degree, I worked for over 12 years in retail construction development for a number of companies including Suncorp and Mirvac. As a mother of three boys and being part of a family owned business, people, values and respect for our team members and clients is extremely important to me and an integral part of QSS. I look forward to the next era of QSS and to the challenges and success that lay ahead.
In 1989 I started my apprenticeship as an Electronics Tradesperon - Commercial (IT). I worked for a few companies during my trade gaining experience of the IT world. In 1993 I started working in my family's business writing custom software and hardware solutions and this is where I met Barry. I have since completed a Diploma of Business and other management courses. Shortly after the sale of my family business in 2007 I started working for Barry and Queensland Steel & Sheet. It is comforting to know there are still family businesses around that have the same philosophy - customer focused with old fashioned service and support. I spend my spare time training for and competing in triathlons and enjoy going camping with friends and family as often as I can.
I began working at QSS over 20 years ago and can honestly say that I still enjoy turning up each and every day. I first started working in the store and after familiarising myself with the products we sell I moved into the office and eventually out on the road as a sales representative. The business as a whole operates at a highly professional level but allows the staff to work in a fun and friendly environment, which is evident in our relationship with the majority of QSS's loyal customers. No enquiry is too small and customer satisfaction is always at the top of our agenda.
I have been with Queensland Steel & Sheet since 2011. I have over 12 years' experience in the steel industry including working with a couple of multi-national companies. I thoroughly enjoy working for a family owned and operated business. Queensland Steel & Sheet's loyal staff base provides many years of experience in the steel industry whilst having some fun we all strive to offer a professional level of service to our customers. Being a father of 3 boys, I enjoy a good work life balance which QSS also provides. I enjoy fishing, dirt bike riding and spending time with my family.
I began working for QSS in March of 2002. I was employed as a storeman and worked my way up to internal sales and administration. I am responsible for processing and production as well as logistics. I enjoy talking to our customers and suppliers on a daily basis and am proud to be a part of the QSS team. In my spare time I enjoy fishing, camping and watching the footy. I also love spending as much time as possible with my 2 young boys.
I have joined the QSS team early 2016 and have worked in administration and warehouse logistics in the past and because of this I was able to fit into my position well. I am eager to learn as much as I can about the steel industry and are enthusiastic about gaining a repour with our customers and suppliers. In my spare time I enjoy shopping and being active. I am proud to be part of such a close-knit team that move forward together.
I have worked in administration for over 20 years with most of my experience gained in the accounting industry and also from running a family business with my husband for over 10 years. I began working at Queensland Steel & Sheet in September 2014 on a casual basis and am now a permanent employee responsible for the processing and payment of all expenses. QSS has a great working environment as all staff work extremely well together as a team. With a strong focus on customer service and attention to details it is by far the best company I have ever worked for.
I have been at QSS since 1995 and have been a truck driver for over 30 years. I have a vast array of careers from farmhand, carer for autistic children to ground person. As the Logistics Supervisor for QSS I strive to give our customers the shortest delivery times we can. We are a great team and work our best to give our best.
I began working for QSS in 2005, prior to this I was the Production Superintendent for 32 years at Mount Isa Mines and also did 15 years in retail management of Woolworths. I love working for QSS as it is a very friendly, family oriented company. We strive to meet our customer's requirements on time with a top quality product. I love playing golf, spending time with my wife, daughters and grandchildren.
After a successful two and a half years with Bunnings as a supervisor, previous roles in the mines and road construction I looked to move into sales. I started my sales career on the road with my previous employer and moving into an internal sales role with QSS. I have found an exciting and challenging career path as well as an incredible group of people and look forward to building relationships with our customers. I spend my free time playing indoor football, going to the gym and reading.
I was fortunate enough to take up a job with Queensland Steel & Sheet in August of 2011. Having only been in Australia for a few years prior, this felt like a challenge yet an exciting time. I had no experience in the field but QSS believed in me. I started in the warehouse and was then given the opportunity to come into the office as an internal for a year, this gave me that extra knowledge that I lacked previously, understanding both sides of the business was a privilege. Coming back onto the floor and sharing the knowledge I gained from my time as an internal with my colleagues, gives me satisfaction to see them strive from the information gained whilst under my training. Queensland Steel & Sheet is definitely a fun place to work with all the numerous characters we have, it has been an experience one I will never forget. During my free time I like to catch the footy and a beer or two and spend as much time with my kids and partner as possible.
I joined the steel industry in 2014, prior to my employment at QSS I had completed Multiple courses including I.T, Retail management and Retail. Working with the team at QSS is a whole new and exciting experience in which I am thoroughly enjoying. I like to spend my spare time socialising with my friends or just simply relaxing watching a movie.
